Catfish Ball
Juvenile schooling catfish move as if they are one entity. By doing so, they project the illusion that they are larger in a ‘safety-in-numbers’ mentality. As they mature, they become more independent, relying on their highly venomous spines for defense.

NO. This is actually fasciation, a phenomenon occuring in many plants that haven’t been exposed to radiation, thank you very much. *grumblegrumble*

Also known as Slime Fly, drain fly, filter fly, sewage fly, or bathroom fly. The genus that turns up in most complaints is Clogmia, which is the most awesomely appropriate name for a fly that breeds in drains EVAH.

Well, we did a plankton tow today and found a bunch of copepods and cyphonautes larvae and nauplii and zoea. Then after class I went to the beach to look for stranded Nereocystis juveniles to try out on the kelp crabs in their crabitats. :)

Another! Those siphons look deceptively like gastropod tentacles. The whole thing reminds me of an even more morbidly exaggerated snail infected with leucochloridium paradoxum.
