For my research project this quarter, I’m doing a field experiment on the effects of different types of grazers on juvenile bull kelps, and for some of my treatments, I’m building cages to exclude different grazer sizes.  The kelp is tied to a concrete block, which is put...

I hung a prototype kelp cage off the dock today to see how they hold up and I can’t stop worrying about it becoming detached and sinking.  I’m so nervous that I’m probably going to have trouble sleeping.

Hi Followers!
Today I’m leaving sunny(!) Seattle to spend 3 months at Friday Harbor Marine Labs on San Juan Island, where I’ll be studying marine invertebrates, algae, and doing some nearshore ecology research.  I’m not exactly sure how much free time I’ll have for tumbling, but I’ll try to take lots of pictures of pretty sea-things for y’all.
